The Academy for Global Citizenship is a non-profit Chicago public charter school that serves as an incubator for educational innovation. It provides a holistic, nature-centric, and dual-language learning environment for students in grades PreK-8.

Teaching approach

The school’s philosophy is rooted in the belief that how a child learns is as important as what they learn, emphasizing a human-centered, community-driven approach. It utilizes a "village model" rather than traditional classrooms to foster interconnectedness, metacognition, and socio-emotional well-being. The curriculum is built on the principles of sustainability, social justice, and environmental stewardship, aiming to empower students to become mindful leaders who positively impact their communities and the planet.

Programmes

The school is an accredited International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, utilizing the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for Pre-K through 5th grade and the Middle Years Programme (MYP) for 6th through 8th grade. The curriculum is delivered through a dual-language approach, fostering biliteracy and bilingualism. Students engage in inquiry-based, transdisciplinary units that meet national standards while incorporating experiential, hands-on learning in areas such as science, technology, and the arts. Formalized action projects are required for students in 5th and 8th grades as part of the PYP Exhibition and MYP community project.
