The school is guided by the mission of 'Inspiring Respect, Resilience and the ability to Think and Act Inclusively' within its international environment. The school offers a comprehensive education from Kindergarten through High School graduation, organized into four National Sections: US, British, Canadian, and German. Each section adheres to its respective national educational requirements, while the school works to standardize instruction and promote language learning through its Partner Language Programme. The curriculum integrates 21st-century skills, including digital literacy, critical thinking, and collaborative project-based learning.

The school provides a Partner Language Programme (PLP) that offers German as a Second Language (GSL) for English speakers and English as a Second Language (ESL) for students requiring additional support. These programs utilize a communicative, thematic approach to help students access the curriculum and participate in school life. AFNORTH International School serves over 900 students aged 3 to 18, primarily children of active-duty military personnel from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Germany. While priority is given to these 'entitled' students, the school also offers places on a space-available basis for other NATO or DoD-affiliated families and those in the area for commercial reasons. Prospective families are encouraged to contact the relevant National Section for registration guidance, while non-entitled applicants must submit an international application form to the International Directorate.

The academic year typically commences in mid-August, with the school following specific calendars tailored to its different national sections. The British and German sections follow a shared AIS calendar, while the US and Canadian sections operate on their own respective elementary and middle/high school schedules. The school maintains an emergency notification system to communicate urgent information to parents throughout the year.

The 10-acre campus in Brunssum, Netherlands, features a modern, purpose-built facility organized around an airy central 'Hub' with four colour-coded 'Pod' areas. Key amenities include recently renovated science labs, a modernized library, four sports halls, floodlit soccer and football pitches, and a four-lane athletics track. The campus also includes the 'Atalanta' sensory garden, a designated Forest School area, and specialized performance spaces, all equipped with SMART interactive technology.

Students have access to a wide range of extracurricular activities, including sports, arts, and academic clubs. Notable offerings include the JROTC, Model United Nations (MUN), a Discussion and Debate team, and the National Honour Society. The school also hosts annual traditions such as the Saint Martin celebration, European Day of Languages, and various graduation ceremonies.
