The Anglo European School is an 11–19 co-educational state comprehensive school in Ingatestone, Essex, distinguished by its internationalist curriculum and commitment to language learning. It was the first state specialist language school in Britain to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma and the International Baccalaureate Career Programme.

Teaching approach

The school is guided by three core pillars: 'Excelencia' (academic excellence through a broad, balanced, and inclusive curriculum), 'Interkulturell' (respect for one's own culture and others, celebrating diversity), and 'L’avenir' (providing linguistic, creative, and social skills for the future). Its internationalist ethos, inspired by the International Baccalaureate, aims to develop enquiring, resilient, and self-reflecting global citizens who can challenge stereotypes.

Programmes

The curriculum is inspired by the International Baccalaureate’s Middle Years Programme for 11–16-year-olds and includes a wide range of subjects across the arts, humanities, languages, mathematics, science, and technology. All Year 7 students study two languages (French, Spanish, German, or Mandarin), with most continuing two to GCSE. The Sixth Form offers A Levels, the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP), and the IB Career-related Programme (IBCP), with options for A Level/IB combinations. The school also features an extensive International Visits Programme, including family exchanges and work experience in countries such as France, Germany, Spain, China, Japan, and Singapore.

Outcomes

The school is one of the highest-performing comprehensive schools in the country regarding the English Baccalaureate. Its Sixth Form provision has been rated 'outstanding' by Ofsted. Students are prepared for university and the global employment marketplace, with many progressing to higher education or international opportunities.
