Bishop’s Stortford College is an academically selective, co-educational, all-through school for pupils aged 3 to 18. It welcomes approximately 200 new day and boarding pupils annually across six primary entry points: Nursery (3+), Reception (4+), Year 3 (7+), Year 7 (11+), Year 9 (13+), and Year 12 (16+). While day pupils are primarily drawn from the local Hertfordshire and Essex area, the school offers full and weekly boarding options for UK and international students.

John MaguireCollege HeadmasterJohn is Headmaster of Bishop’s Stortford College and is responsible to the Governing Council for the strategic direction and overall success of the College. He was educated locally and graduated in Geography and Geology before starting a career in teaching and leadership at several UK schools. Before joining the College, John and his family lived in Bahrain where he was Executive Headmaster at the British School of Bahrain.
- Rachael CoxHead of the Prep School
A graduate in Politics and History, Rachael completed her PGCE at the University of Reading before commencing her teaching career, initially in the state system. Over a period of 16 years, she held a number of senior leadership positions and local authority advisory roles, before moving into the independent school sector in 2011. In 2017 she became Head of the Infant and Junior School at LVS Ascot, a 4-18 co-educational day and boarding school, before moving into her previous role as Head of Eton End Prep School.
Jo WallaceHead of Pre-Prep and Designated Safeguarding Lead (KS1)Jo is an experienced Head of Pre-Prep, joining the College in September 2023. Educated at University of Warwick, she has held a number of teaching positions in the UK and Australia, before being appointed as Head of Pre-Prep at Abbot’s Hill School in Hemel Hempstead. Jo is also a school Governor at a local primary school, responsible for diversity, equality and inclusion, and is passionate about pupil wellbeing.

Jo graduated with a degree in Geography and an MA in International Marketing before joining the Royal Air Force. She served in senior leadership roles across the UK, and on overseas operations, including the Middle East and Afghanistan. Following a successful military career, she joined the independent school sector in 2016 as Bursar at St Piran’s School, Maidenhead, and then moved to Claremont, Esher, before joining the College in October 2025.
