The British International School of Brussels

The school follows the National Curriculum for England, beginning with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for children aged 3–5, followed by Key Stage 1 (ages 5–7) and Key Stage 2 (ages 7–11). Core subjects include English, Mathematics, and Science, supplemented by History, Geography, Design and Technology, Information Technology, Art, and Music, with French taught from Reception through Year 6. The curriculum integrates themed topics and comparative religious studies to provide a well-rounded, cross-curricular learning experience.

The school provides specialist support for non-English speakers to ensure access to the curriculum. It maintains a small-school environment with experienced teachers and assistants dedicated to providing individualised attention and fostering strong partnerships between home and school.

The school accepts enrolments throughout the academic year. Prospective families are invited to submit an enquiry form via the school website to arrange an appointment for a visit.

The academic year is structured into five blocks of 7 or 8 weeks, beginning in the last week of August and concluding on the first Friday in July. The schedule includes approximately 7 weeks of summer holiday and four 2-week breaks between the teaching blocks, aligning closely with the local public francophone school schedule.

The campus consists of two buildings in central Brussels: the Avenue Emile Max building, which houses the Infant Department (ages 3–7), and the Avenue Emeraude building, which hosts the Junior Department (ages 7–11). The facilities include two well-stocked libraries, with the Junior Department library serving as a hub for drama, music, and debating, featuring modular seating and an interactive screen.

The school offers a variety of sports, including gymnastics and dance, alongside an outdoor education programme featuring archery, orienteering, and hiking. Students also participate in specialist music lessons twice a week and regular swimming sessions, with additional tennis lessons provided for Key Stage 2 pupils at a local sports centre.
