Camberwell Grammar School

Founded in 1886, the school is an independent Anglican day school for boys that aims to educate the whole student by nurturing minds, character, and a sense of responsibility. Its core values—Learning, Respect, Integrity, Courage, and Optimism—guide the community. The school motto, Spectemur Agendo ("By Our Deeds May We Be Known"), reflects its commitment to fostering students who act with integrity and contribute meaningfully to the world.

The school offers a formal curriculum spanning Pre-Preparatory to Year 12, covering a wide spectrum of subjects including arts, humanities, science, technology, and sport. The academic program is designed to be demanding yet flexible to accommodate varying rates of development and individual student goals. The school also provides specific pathways through its Music and Sports Academies.

Students consistently achieve high performance in the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR). In recent years, the median ATAR has remained above 91, with one in nine students achieving a score of 99 or better, placing them in the top one per cent of the state.

The school provides dedicated student wellbeing, learning enhancement, and learning enrichment services. Pastoral care is integrated into the student experience to support individual growth and academic progress. Careers counselling is also available to assist students in their development.

The school maintains an open entry policy, though offers are subject to a successful interview and potential testing. Preference is given to brothers of current students and sons of alumni, with remaining places generally allocated based on the original date of enrolment. The primary intake years are Pre-Preparatory (age four by January 1st), Year 3, and Year 7, with occasional vacancies arising at other levels. The school does not accept overseas students or offer short-term study programs.

The school operates on a four-term academic year. In 2026, Term 1 runs from 30 January to 2 April, Term 2 from 21 April to 26 June, Term 3 from 14 July to 11 September, and Term 4 from 5 October to 9 December. The 2027 academic year begins on 1 February and concludes on 8 December.

Located in Canterbury, the campus features a blend of period architecture and contemporary design, including the Norge Junior School (Pre-Preparatory to Year 5), William Angliss Middle School (Years 6 to 8), and the Wheelton Centre/M Building for Senior School (Years 9 to 12). Sports facilities include the David Dyer Physical Education Centre, a 50-metre swimming pool, a gymnasium, weights room, basketball courts, and two ovals (Keith Anderson and Jack Tobias). The campus also houses a Performing Arts Centre, the Mallinson Music School, an ergonomics room, and the All Souls Chapel.

The school provides an extensive co-curricular program that extends beyond the classroom to include camps, excursions, outdoor education, and performing arts. Students have access to dedicated Music and Sports Academies. Participation in these activities is encouraged to support the development of the whole student.
