Cardinal Newman High School

Cardinal Newman High School is a Catholic, Christian community dedicated to educating the whole person—spirit, mind, and body—according to the gospel values of Jesus Christ. The school emphasizes high academic standards, self-discipline, and the development of God-given talents. It promotes values such as integrity, responsibility, mutual respect, and community involvement, aiming to form leaders who will have a positive influence on society.

The curriculum is college preparatory, offering courses at the honors, Advanced Placement (AP), and dual enrollment levels. Core subjects include English, mathematics, science, social studies, theology, and foreign languages (Spanish), supplemented by fine arts, business, and physical education. Specialized programs include the M. Scott Powell Scholars Program, which offers an integrated, competitive track for high-achieving students, and the Cupertino Program. Students must earn four credits in mathematics and four years of English to graduate.

Graduates are prepared for success in rigorous institutions of higher learning. The school emphasizes the development of 21st-century leaders who are academically inquisitive, spiritually alert, and physically sound. Students are encouraged to engage in community service, with a minimum requirement of 25 hours per school year, to foster sensitivity to the needs of others.

Students with existing educational plans, such as IEP, EP, or 504 plans, are required to submit these documents during the admissions process for review. Additionally, the school offers a four-year college counseling program to assist students with resume building, test-taking skills, and the college application process.

The admissions process for freshman applicants includes submitting an online application, a $120 application fee (increasing to $170 after November 15), and required documentation such as middle school records and any applicable IEP/504 plans. All freshman applicants must complete the High School Placement Test (HSPT). Transfer applicants must provide unofficial transcripts, two recommendations, standardized test scores, and health documentation. Acceptance letters are emailed on February 5, 2026, followed by a $500 registration fee to secure enrollment.

The academic year typically runs from early August to late May, featuring two semesters and four quarters. The calendar includes breaks for Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, President’s Day, Spring Break, and Easter. Key events include orientation for new students, PSAT testing in October, Catholic Schools Week in January, and a graduation ceremony in May. Final exams for underclassmen are scheduled for late May.

The campus includes a chapel for daily morning liturgy and prayer services. Performing arts facilities include a dedicated performance venue for Christmas concerts and access to the Palm Beach State College Theater for spring fine arts culminations. The school also maintains a media center and utilizes technology across campus, including iPads and digital resources, to support the curriculum.

The school offers a variety of clubs and activities, including the Life Club, Liturgical Club, and Catholic Youth Group, which support the school's spiritual mission. Students are encouraged to participate in extracurriculars as part of their total development. The performing arts department hosts theater productions, including an annual musical, and various vocal and instrumental ensembles such as concert band, jazz band, and chamber choirs that perform at local civic and community events.
