Programmes

The school offers a curriculum based on Japanese national learning objectives, supplemented by international content and extended learning time. English and Mathematics are taught at least once daily, and in Grades 5 and 6, Social Studies is taught in both English and Japanese. The programme includes Kindergarten (K1-K3) and Elementary (Grades 1-6), with options for Japanese (Kokugo) or Japanese Studies depending on the student's background.

Outcomes

Graduates are prepared to access either international middle schools or Japanese junior high schools of their choice. The school aims to develop multilingual, internationally minded 21st-century model citizens who actively contribute to the world.

Admissions

The school offers two entry pathways: one for the start of the academic year in April and another for mid-year transfers. Prospective families are required to attend an Information Session and school tour, typically held in September for April admissions, or schedule a tour via the Admissions Officer. The process includes submitting an application form, relevant school records, and a screening test or informal meeting for younger children, followed by a final decision from the Head of School.

Calendar

The school operates on a term-based system, with the academic year concluding in July. The calendar includes scheduled Parents' Evenings, inter-house challenges, and a summer holiday period followed by a summer school programme. National holidays are observed throughout the year.

    Trent Citrano is the Head of School and a member of the Board of Directors. He holds an MEd in School Administration and a BA in Bilingual Multicultural Liberal Studies/Latin American Studies, with extensive prior experience as a principal and administrator in international and US schools.

    Anthony Hall serves as the Deputy Head of School, Kindergarten Class teacher, and member of the Board of Trustees. He holds an MA in Education, Leadership and Management of Schools and Colleges, and has been with MIS since 2013, previously serving as the Lower Elementary Coordinator.

    Ms. Zaidi is a Grade 4 Class Teacher and the Upper Elementary Coordinator. She holds a BA and PGCert in Education, with over 12 years of teaching experience in the UK and international schools.

    Mr. Reimann is a Grade 1 Class Teacher and the Lower Elementary Coordinator. He holds a BEd and has nearly 20 years of experience in Australian, British, and IB international schools, including serving as a Health and Safety Coordinator.
