Deutsche Schule Chillán

The school offers a comprehensive curriculum spanning from early childhood (Spielgruppe) through secondary education (Educación Media). It is in the process of implementing the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, which includes core components such as Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS), and the Extended Essay. Students may choose from various subjects at the Higher and Standard levels, including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Economics, History, Visual Arts, Music, and Language and Literature.

The school has graduated 893 students since its inception and is recognized as one of the top 100 schools in Chile. Graduates are prepared for international studies through language certifications in both German and English. The curriculum aims to foster integral development based on principles of freedom, respect, tolerance, and excellence.

The school emphasizes a bilingual education, with German instruction beginning in Spielgruppe and English instruction starting in Prekindergarten. It maintains strategic alliances with international institutions, including the Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA) and the PASCH initiative, to support language acquisition and teacher training. The institution also focuses on student well-being through a dedicated Sub-directorate of Formation and School Coexistence.

The school maintains a formal admission process with specific criteria for different levels. Applicants for Spielgruppe must be three years old by March 31st of the entry year, with applications accepted between April and June. For other levels, admission depends on vacancy availability, requiring applicants to pass language and mathematics assessments with at least 60% proficiency. Priority is given to siblings of current students, children of staff, children of alumni, students transferring from other German schools, and former students.

The school operates on a standard academic year, with specific admission windows for Spielgruppe occurring annually from the first Monday of April through the last Friday of June. Regular admission processes for other levels are organized as vacancies arise. The school also hosts various community events throughout the year, such as the Day of the Student and parent information sessions.

Located on Flores Millán 1007 in Chillán, the campus has grown significantly since its inauguration in 1988. Current facilities include classrooms for all levels from preschool to secondary education. The school is currently developing a new space specifically designed for early childhood education and is constructing a mountain refuge in the Killahue Ecotourism Park to provide students with access to the local ecosystem and nature.

The school offers an extracurricular program known as ACLE. Additionally, the school facilitates a "host families" initiative through the Parents' Association (CGPA) to support student integration and cultural exchange. Students also participate in international exchange opportunities, including a study trip to Germany for students in the second year of secondary education (II Medio).
