Dual International School - Florianópolis

The school follows a socioconstructivist pedagogical approach that views the student as the subject of their own learning. It aims to develop critical thinking, autonomy, resilience, and the ability to work in teams, while maintaining a strong Brazilian identity alongside an international perspective. The institution is committed to forming students who are responsible, conscious, and capable of acting in a globalized world.

The school operates as an IB World School, offering the IB Continuum (PYP, MYP, and DP) to students aged 3 to 18. It utilizes a dual-language immersion model in English and Portuguese, with Spanish integrated into the curriculum starting in the 6th grade. The immersion intensity varies by segment, with 80% of the time in English during early years, 50% in Fundamental I and II, and 70% in High School.

The school prepares students for national and international examinations, including the ENEM, Brazilian university entrance exams (vestibulares), and international assessments such as the SAT, ACT, and IB. Graduates are equipped to pursue higher education at universities in Brazil and abroad. The school offers a triple diploma: the Brazilian high school diploma, an American high school diploma, and the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma.

The school accepts applications for students from Early Years through High School. The admissions process involves an interview and evaluation meetings for students from the 3rd grade onwards. If no vacancies are available for a specific grade level, the school maintains a waiting list.

The school maintains a calendar of events designed to foster community interaction, including the Family Day, an annual Arraiá celebrating Brazilian culture, and the Dual Theater Arts Festival. Other notable events include the Science Fair, which challenges students to solve real-world problems, and the Dual Literary Arts Festival. These events are intended to bring content and fun to the entire school community.

The campus features modern and spacious learning environments designed to support active learning and integration. Facilities include specialized libraries with collections in both Portuguese and English, mobile computer labs equipped with Chromebooks, and laboratories for science, biology, and chemistry. Additionally, the school provides sports areas, a playground, music and dance rooms, a gym, an arts workshop, multipurpose rooms for theater and projects, and individual lockers.

The school offers various extension curricular activities that take place in the afternoon, between 16:20 and 18:00. These activities are designed to complement the core academic program and provide students with additional opportunities for development.
