Teaching approach

Founded in 1923 by Mab Bradley, the school is guided by the motto, “the days that make us happy make us wise.” It prioritises a family-like atmosphere where pupils feel secure, nurtured, and known as individuals. The school emphasises the development of the whole child, encouraging perseverance, confidence, and active participation in both the school and local communities.

Programmes

The school offers a comprehensive curriculum spanning Junior School (Reception to Year 6), Senior School (Years 7–11), and Sixth Form (Years 12–13). The Sixth Form curriculum includes traditional A-Levels, RSL Diplomas in Performing Arts, the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), and a BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Equine Management. International students have access to English as a Second/Additional Language (ESL/EAL) support.

Outcomes

The school is noted for its 'value-added' performance, with pupils frequently exceeding their predicted grades and baseline scores. Recent graduates have secured places at prestigious institutions, including the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge. Students are also recognised nationally for their academic and community contributions, such as receiving 'Highly Commended' status in the Whitbread Memorial Prize.

Learning support

The school provides an inclusive learning environment with a dedicated Head of Learning Support and specialist teaching staff. Upon entry, all pupils are screened using standardised tests to identify potential difficulties, which are then addressed through individualised Support Plans. Specialist teaching is available on a 1:1 or group basis, and the curriculum is differentiated to ensure all students, including those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), can make progress.
