The International School of Genoa is a not-for-profit, family-oriented international school providing high-quality education for students aged 3 to 17 in the Genoa metropolitan area. It is the only school in Liguria accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS).

It emphasizes a holistic approach to education, focusing on inquiry-based and conceptual learning. The school nurtures the IB Learner Profile attributes, including being thinkers, inquirers, caring, communicators, principled, reflective, open-minded, knowledgeable, balanced, and risk-takers.
Programmes
The school offers a complete IB continuum: the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for Early Years and Elementary students (ages 2-10), the Middle Years Programme (MYP) for Grades 6-10, and the IB Diploma Programme for Grades 11-12. English is the primary language of instruction, with additional language offerings including Italian, French, Spanish, German, and Mandarin. All students receive an ISG High School diploma upon meeting graduation requirements.
Outcomes
The school is an IB World School and the first IB Continuum School in Liguria, with a long record of university admissions. The IB Diploma is recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education and is legally equivalent to the Italian Maturità. Students consistently achieve high standards, and the school maintains a strong pass rate on the Terza Media exam.

Admissions
The school welcomes applications throughout the year and encourages prospective families to visit the campus for a personal tour or to attend an Open Morning. The admissions process includes an initial enquiry, followed by a visit or virtual meeting, and the submission of an application. Families are required to pay a one-time membership fee and a capital fee per child upon enrollment, in addition to annual registration and tuition fees.
Calendar
The school operates from Monday to Friday, with office hours from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The academic day typically runs from 8:15 am until 3:20 pm for Early Years and 3:40 pm for Elementary, Middle, and High School students. An extended-day 'Child Care Club' is available until 5:20 pm, offering activities such as free play, movies, and storytelling.
Facilities
About the campus
Located in a 6000-square-meter campus on the grounds of a renovated 14th-century Benedictine abbey, the school features historical gardens, a sports field, and cross-country trails. Indoor facilities include an auditorium with professional sound and musical equipment, an art room, a library with approximately 10,000 books, and a cafeteria. Science labs are provided for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, alongside an Innovation Lab for Computer Science, Design, and Technology.
Co-curriculars
Students have access to a wide range of after-school activities, including a musical production, an athletic program, a Model United Nations (MUN) club, and a yearbook club. These activities are offered between 3:45 pm and 4:45 pm, with additional options available through the Child Care Club. The school also hosts a Summer School program.



David MonkSchool DirectorDavid holds an MA in Educational Leadership and Management from the University of Bath and a B.Ed. from the University of Exeter. Before joining ISG, he held leadership positions at international schools in Qatar, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Thailand, beginning his international career in 1989. He is a trained CIS and NEASC evaluation team member and has served as Chair of the IB MYP Committee.

Christine earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Pace University, a Master of Education in Special Education from Vanderbilt University, and completed postgraduate studies at Columbia University. She has held teaching and leadership roles in the USA, South Korea, and the US Virgin Islands, and has been a member of the ISG community since 2011.

Elizabeth holds a Bachelor of Science from William & Mary and has completed graduate coursework in educational administration at Michigan State University and technology and mathematics education at the University of Virginia. She has been with the ISG community since 1991, serving in various capacities including IB mathematics teacher, Secondary Principal, IB Diploma Programme Coordinator, and College Counselor.

Alex holds a BA (Hons) in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics and a Master’s in Political Theory from The University of Manchester, as well as a postgraduate diploma in Education and Leadership from Sheffield Hallam University. She has taught in Spain and the UK, and has worked at ISG since 2022.

Jody earned a Bachelor of Arts in Politics from the University of Northumbria and a PGCE in Religious Studies and History. She has held leadership positions at ISG since 2012 and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Leadership of Whole-School Mental health and Wellbeing at Leeds Beckett University.

Patty graduated from Concordia University with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and holds a Master of Arts in K-12 Education from Bethel University. She has worked at ISG since 2012 and has taught various primary grades in addition to her role as PYP coordinator.
