St. Andrew's College

Founded in 1855, St Andrew's College is an Anglican boys' school rooted in the motto "Nec Aspera Terrent" (Difficulties do not dismay us). The school aims to grow boys into compassionate, resilient men who contribute positively to society, emphasizing values of humility, service, courage, and integrity. It operates with a commitment to inclusivity and diversity, respecting the dignity of all members of the community within the South African context.

The academic programme offers the Independent Examination Board (IEB) curriculum and a Cambridge International A Levels stream, which is structured as a two-year course starting with AS Levels in Grade 11. Classes are generally small, with a teacher-to-pupil ratio of approximately 1:10, and utilize a "setting" system in Grades 10-12 to accommodate individual ability. From Grade 10, classes are combined with the Diocesan School for Girls (DSG) to provide a co-educational experience, while a comprehensive leadership programme is integrated across Grades 8-12.

The school provides dedicated academic and wellness support to ensure the holistic development of each pupil. An academic support specialist is available to assist students, while the wellness department includes a head of wellness, a consultant psychologist, and a sanatorium staff to address personal and health-related needs. Each boy is also assigned an academic tutor who monitors his progress and provides guidance.

St Andrew's College does not charge an application fee. Prospective families must submit an online application form along with supporting documentation, including the pupil's latest school report, birth certificate, and parent identification. Upon acceptance, an entrance deposit is required the year prior to entry, and families must sign a formal Contract of Enrolment. Financial aid is available through need-based bursaries, which are awarded based on a student's potential contribution to the school and the family's financial circumstances.

The campus features specialized academic and support facilities, including the Antony Clark Resource Centre and a dedicated Sanatorium. Boarding is provided in six houses: Armstrong, Espin, Graham, Merriman, Mullins, and Upper House. The school offers a diverse range of cultural clubs, societies, and activities, including the President’s Award, Round Square, and Interact Club. Sports are a significant component of school life, supported by a dedicated sports calendar and facilities that host events such as the Dave Hodgson Squash Festival and the Football Cup. Additionally, the school maintains a strong focus on outdoor education, highlighted by the Grade 10 John Jones Fish River Journey.
