Programmes

The IB Diploma is officially recognized by the Kultusministerkonferenz as a valid university entrance qualification in Germany.

Learning support

Admissions

The school maintains a non-discriminatory, non-selective admissions policy, prioritizing internationally mobile families, returning German families with English-language schooling, and siblings of current students. Applicants must submit previous report cards and may be required to complete placement tests in English, Mathematics, and German. A six-month probationary period applies to all new students, and the school reserves the right to decline admission if it cannot adequately support a student's academic or emotional needs.

The school year typically runs from mid-August to late June, comprising approximately 181-183 days. The academic calendar includes scheduled breaks in October, winter (December/January), February, and spring (March/April), alongside various public holidays. About the campus

Located on a spacious, green campus near the center of Hannover, the school features purpose-built facilities including an administration building, four classroom wings, and an auditorium. The campus provides specialized spaces such as science laboratories, music and drama rooms, a well-stocked library, and sports facilities including a playing field. Additionally, the school maintains dedicated Kindergarten facilities and a large dining room equipped with a professional kitchen.

Co-curriculars

Students participate in a variety of lunch-time and after-school activities, including Model United Nations, school band, and diverse athletic options. The school emphasizes service-oriented projects, such as Service as Action (SA) in the Middle Years Programme and Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) in the Diploma Programme. Robotics teams and mathematics teams also represent the school in regional and international competitions.

    John has over 20 years of experience in international education, having worked in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Denmark, Germany, and China. Before joining ISHR, he served as Deputy Head at Harrow International School Beijing and as Secondary Principal and Deputy Director at Bavarian International School in Munich. He holds an MSc in Educational Leadership from the University of Leicester.

    Patrícia has been with ISHR since February 2010, holding various roles in finance and admissions before becoming Business Director. She holds an MBA from EADA, Barcelona, and is fluent in Portuguese, English, German, and Spanish.

    Carole NickleDeputy Director

    Carole has extensive experience in international education, including curriculum leadership in Turkey and secondary school leadership in the UAE and Japan. She joined ISHR in 2020 as Head of Middle School before stepping into the Deputy Director role for the 22-23 school year. She holds a Master of Education from Endicott College and is currently pursuing a doctorate at the University of Bath.

    Alexandra has 16 years of professional experience in the German educational system and has worked internationally in Belgium and Bahrain. She joined ISHR in May 2022. She is a state-recognised Early Years Teacher and a specialist educator.

  • Tonia Whyte Potter-Mäl
    Tonia Whyte Potter-MälHead of Primary School

    Tonia has 16 years of experience in pedagogical leadership roles and has worked in international education across Canada, Italy, Germany, and Singapore. She joined ISHR as Head of Primary School in August 2022 and holds a Master’s of Arts in Educational Leadership from Columbia University.

    Paul joined ISHR in 2009, having previously served as Deputy Principal at Beacon Community College and Deputy Head of Costessey High School in the UK. He holds a PGCE from the University of Leeds and a National Professional Qualification for Headship.
