International School of Arizona
Updated July 2026
The International School of Arizona is a private, non-profit, independent school in Scottsdale providing a dual international curriculum and full-immersion multilingual education for students aged 18 months through 8th grade. It is a destination school that combines rigorous academics with language mastery, aiming to eliminate the perceived tradeoff between specialized language development and a dynamic student experience.
Curriculum
Teaching approach
The school is committed to a full-immersion multilingual education that fosters global understanding and academic excellence. It operates on the belief that children learn languages naturally through multi-sensory experiences and inquiry-based methodology. The school aims to develop "active citizens of the world" who possess the drive, capacity, and skills to positively impact their communities.
Programmes
The school offers a French or Spanish immersion curriculum, with English instruction integrated daily. The Early School (18 months–PK) focuses on language-emergent experiences. The Lower School (Grades 1–5) follows the European curriculum, emphasizing reading, writing, and critical thinking in the target language. The Middle School (Grades 6–8) provides a U.S. Honors Core Curriculum alongside advanced language study, including a Personal Inquiry Project (PIP) and the introduction of a third language in 4th grade. The school is accredited by the AEFE (Agency for French Education Abroad), the International Spanish Academy Network, and Cognia.
Outcomes
By the end of 3rd grade, most students outperform monolingual peers in both their native language and their track language. Students are evaluated using the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and earn certifications such as the Diplomas of Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE) or Diplomas of French as a Foreign Language (DELF). Graduates are prepared for rigorous college preparatory high schools in the U.S. and abroad, embodying the "ISA Portrait of a Graduate" qualities of curiosity, leadership, and global citizenship.
Student support
Learning support
The school maintains small class sizes to facilitate a personalized education plan for students. It provides a supportive environment for language acquisition and academic growth, with teachers working closely with students to ensure fluency and academic success. Financial assistance and scholarships, such as the Arizona Private School Tax Credit and support from the Arizona Tuition Connection, are available to help families manage tuition costs.

Admissions
The school accepts applications year-round for students from 18 months through 8th grade. Applicants for 1st grade and above must demonstrate a command of French or Spanish. The process includes an online application, submission of educational records, and a potential "Shadow Day" for students entering PK4 or higher. Acceptance is determined by an Admissions Review Committee.
Calendar
The school provides dedicated calendars for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 academic years. Families can access these through the school's online portal.
Facilities
About the campus
The campus is located in Scottsdale, Arizona, and is currently undergoing a "Blueprints for Brilliance" capital campaign. Planned facility enhancements include a full-size gymnasium for athletics and performing arts, an outdoor green space called "ISA Central Park," and the renovation of the third floor to include modern classrooms, innovation labs, and art spaces. Currently, the school utilizes outside vendors for physical education.
Co-curriculars
Students participate in a house system—comprising the Coyotes, Bobcats, Gila Monsters, and Roadrunners—which promotes teamwork and sports. The school offers a Student Council focused on social justice and charity projects. Additionally, the school operates auxiliary programs including Atlas' Clubhouse, The Explorer's Den, and Camp Pathfinders, as well as specialty summer camps. Future plans include the launch of competitive athletic teams.
