The school is built on the conviction that every child can achieve success regardless of their background. It maintains a philosophy of high academic expectations, a safe and orderly environment, and the importance of bilingualism. The school follows the Swedish national curriculum, with up to 50% of instruction delivered in English by qualified teachers, many from English-speaking countries. It offers primary and secondary education (typically F-9), with modern foreign languages such as Spanish, French, and German available as options. Additionally, some schools offer the Cambridge IGCSE as an extra challenge for students.

The school aims to prepare students for future studies and global opportunities. Students achieve high academic standards, with many schools reporting strong results in national tests and high graduation rates to upper secondary school (gymnasium). The curriculum emphasizes bilingualism, ensuring students command both Swedish and English.

Each school has a dedicated student health team, including school doctors, nurses, counsellors, and psychologists, to promote learning and prevent illness. Special educators are available to support students, and teachers provide extra help outside of regular lessons for those who need it or wish to pursue further challenges.

Places are allocated based on queue time, with the earliest registration possible from 1 February in the year after a child is born. Families can join the queue regardless of their current residence, though school places are only offered to registered residents in Sweden. Sibling priority may apply if the sibling is already enrolled at or attending an IES school.

The school year follows a standard Swedish academic calendar. Specific events, such as Open House days, are managed at the individual school level and communicated through each school's dedicated website section.

Facilities vary by location but generally include classrooms, libraries, and designated recreation areas. Some campuses feature closed, fenced-in schoolyards to ensure safety, with break times supervised by staff who lead organized activities. Schools also provide nutritious, healthy lunches for students.

Students have access to a variety of activities, which may include sports, music, chess, and reading circles. These are often organized by school 'Houses' or staff and are designed to reflect student interests. Some schools also participate in international competitions, such as the International Language Competition or mathematics challenges like the Pythagoras Quest.
