Kongsberg International School

Kongsberg International School is an IB World School dedicated to fostering a community of globally minded, compassionate, lifelong learners. Its philosophy is rooted in the International Baccalaureate mission to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who contribute to a more peaceful world through intercultural understanding. The school offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework for students aged 6–16. The Primary Years Programme (PYP) serves students in Grades 1–6, focusing on inquiry-based learning across six transdisciplinary themes, including subjects such as English, Norwegian, Mathematics, Arts, Music, and Physical Education. The Middle Years Programme (MYP) serves students in Grades 7–10, providing a rigorous academic pathway that prepares students for future challenges.

The school has a history of outstanding national test results and has received international recognition from the International Baccalaureate organization. It aims to cultivate globally minded, compassionate, lifelong learners who are equipped to tackle future challenges. Graduates are prepared to continue their education, with the school serving as an established alternative to local Norwegian schools.

The school provides dedicated student support services, including SEN (Special Educational Needs) teachers and assistants for both the Primary and Middle Years programmes. A Student Support Coordinator is available for each programme to oversee individual needs. Additionally, Grade 1 students are paired with Grade 6 "buddies" to ensure a safe and supported transition into the school environment.

Kongsberg International School is open to children aged 6–16 who meet the requirements for the right and duty of education in Norway. The school operates a rolling admissions process for available places, with main admissions for Grades 2–10 beginning in May and Grade 1 admissions starting in December for the following academic year. Applicants must submit an application form, and upon acceptance, sign a contract requiring the signatures of both parents. A non-refundable administration fee is charged upon acceptance, which is later deducted from the first tuition invoice.

The school year typically runs from August to June, with tuition fees invoiced over 10 months. The school calendar for the upcoming academic year is generally published by November or December. The campus is located at Dyrmyrgata 39 in Kongsberg and includes a library and designated visitor parking. The school has expanded over time to include additional buildings, such as "The Red Building" acquired in 2008, to accommodate growing student numbers while maintaining a small, family-oriented environment. Classrooms are designed for a maximum of 20 students per class.

The school offers various after-school activities, including a Dungeons & Dragons club. Additionally, students participate in excursions within the local community and the surrounding area, with students in Grades 3–6 attending annual overnight trips outside of Kongsberg. Before- and after-school programmes (SFO) are available for an additional fee.
