Launceston Church Grammar School

Launceston Grammar is an Anglican co-educational community that seeks to uphold Christian values while welcoming students of all faiths and none. It emphasizes a whole-of-school approach to wellbeing, prioritizing the development of character, identity, and resilience.

The school delivers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) on the Junior Campus and follows the Australian Curriculum on the Senior Campus. The academic pathway includes Early Learning, Little Grammar (Prep-Grade 6), Middle Grammar (Grades 7-9), and Grammar Grads (Grades 10-12). Students have access to a broad range of subjects, including French, philosophy, and specialized high-impact learning programs like outdoor education.

Launceston Grammar is recognized as one of the top 100 independent schools in Australia and a top 5 school in Tasmania. Graduates consistently achieve strong academic results, with over half of the TCE cohort typically achieving ATARs of 85 or higher. The school also celebrates alumni achievements through the Peter Sculthorpe Alumnus Award and the Grammar Great Award.

The school provides a well-established pastoral care program and access to chaplaincy services. Two school counsellors work across both campuses, providing a confidential space for student support, with referrals accepted from parents, teachers, or students. Additionally, the Junior Campus has a dedicated Head of Learning Enrichment who works with families and specialists to create personalized learning plans for students with diverse needs.

Launceston Grammar is a co-educational day and boarding school that is small by design, with capacity for approximately 300 students on the Junior Campus and 600 on the Senior Campus. Applications are processed in the order received, with priority given to siblings of current students, boarders, and children of alumni. The school encourages families to register interest well in advance of the expected entry year, with main intake years at Early Learning, Prep, and Grades 5, 7, and 10.

The school operates on a four-term academic year. The 2026 calendar includes a mid-term break in August, public holidays such as Australia Day, the King’s Birthday, and Recreation Day, and concludes the academic year on 9 December. Senior students participate in TASC TCE written exams in November.

The school operates across two campuses: the Junior Campus in East Launceston and the Senior Campus in Mowbray. The Senior Campus features a prominent school chapel at its entrance, which serves as the heart of the school community. The campus grounds include facilities for dance and drama, and the school provides bus services for student transport.

The school offers over 50 extra-curricular opportunities across both campuses to inspire students. These include specialized activities such as aviation, agricultural science, mountain biking, photography, and media art. Students also engage in sporting programs, rowing, and various Christian service activities.
