The school offers a CBSE-affiliated curriculum from Class V to Class XII, preparing students for the All India Secondary School Examination (Class X) and the All India Senior School Certificate Examination (Class XII). In the Prep Department (Classes V-VI), core subjects include English, Hindi, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Life Skills, with Sanskrit, French, and Punjabi introduced in Classes VII-VIII. Senior secondary students (Classes XI-XII) can choose from a wide range of subjects across streams, including English Core, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, Entrepreneurship, History, Political Science, Geography, Psychology, Informatics Practices, Computer Science, Painting, Sculpture, Kathak Dance, Hindustani Vocal Music, Textile Design, Yoga, and Physical Education.

Students prepare for the CBSE Class X and Class XII board examinations, with the school setting academic objectives to achieve excellence in these results. Graduates become eligible to seek admission to colleges and universities after successfully completing the All India Senior School Certificate Examination (AISSCE). Alumni have gone on to achieve notable success as leaders in various fields, including politics, entrepreneurship, journalism, and corporate management.

The school provides academic, cultural, social, moral, and psychological guidance support to its students. Remedial classes are organized by the Faculty of Mathematics and other departments to assist students who require extra academic help. Admission is open to boys and girls aged 9 to 16 for Classes V through IX and Class XI, with no admissions permitted in the board classes of X and XII. For Classes V, VI, and VII, the process involves a written Common Entrance Test in November covering English, Mathematics, Science, and Hindi, followed by a Personal Interaction with the Headmaster. Class XI admissions begin in April after the Class X board exams, with selection based on a Personal Interaction and qualifying tests in Mathematics or Sciences depending on the chosen stream.

The school's academic year is structured around terms, including the Spring Term and the Founder's Term. The new academic session for the general school community commences on February 15th each year, while the session for newly admitted students begins in the first week of March.

The 139-acre campus features historic colonial buildings alongside modern infrastructure, including the 169-year-old School Chapel, the Birdwood main academic block with 30 classrooms, and the Barne Hall auditorium. Residential facilities consist of Honoria Court for girls and separate boys' dormitories organized into four houses (Himalaya, Nilagiri, Siwalik, and Vindhya) along with dedicated holding houses for transitional years. Athletic and recreational facilities include the Peacestead girls' playground, the Barne cricket and football field, Honoria Basketball Courts, an indoor sports complex with a solar-heated swimming pool, squash courts, a gymnasium, and a shooting range.
