Livorno Elementary/Middle School

The school's mission is to educate, engage, and empower military-connected students to succeed in a dynamic world. It aims to provide rigorous, engaging, and differentiated instruction within a safe and nurturing environment to foster a passion for lifelong learning. The school emphasizes core values of positivity, responsibility, integrity, and excellence.

The school provides a comprehensive PK–8 curriculum that includes English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Fine Arts, Health, Physical Education, and World Languages. Instruction is designed to be rigorous and differentiated, with additional access to technology classes. The academic program is supported by the broader DoDEA College and Career Ready Curriculum standards.

The school is categorized as a Level 0 facility regarding support for students with special needs. Students enrolled in the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) are generally directed to schools categorized as Level 1-3, depending on their specific support requirements. Student Services provides additional guidance through counseling, school health, special education, and Section 504 branches.

Registration is managed through the DoDEA Student Information System (DSIS) Family Portal. Families are required to register new students and annually re-register returning students to update contact information and sponsor employment status. As a condition of enrollment, all universal prekindergarten students must participate in the Student Meal Program.

The school operates on a schedule that typically includes a standard school day from 8:05 a.m. to 2:35 p.m. (with an early dismissal at 1:35 p.m. on Wednesdays). The academic year includes federal holidays such as Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, and a Thanksgiving break.

Located at the Darby Military Community in Italy, the school is a small facility designed to provide a family-like environment. It features multi-grade classrooms with small student-to-teacher ratios, typically capped at 15 students. The campus includes dedicated spaces for Art, PE, Health, and technology instruction.

The school offers a variety of clubs that vary from year to year, which may include Student Council, Junior Leadership Seminar, Art, Robotics, Lego, and Math Counts. Additionally, students have opportunities to participate in broader initiatives like the Junior Leadership Seminar, an immersive experience for 7th and 8th graders focused on leadership traits, decision-making, and project management.
