Maartenscollege & International School Groningen

The Maartenscollege aims to cultivate global citizens within a safe and supportive learning environment where respect, inclusivity, and collaboration are central. It encourages students to think critically, take responsibility, and reach their full potential. The school promotes an international mindset, valuing both personal cultural history and the traditions of others.

The school offers bilingual education where subjects are taught in both Dutch and English, alongside the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP). Students can enter through combination bridge classes (such as mavo-havo or havo-vwo), which provide two years of flexibility to determine the most suitable academic level. The curriculum connects theory and practice through interdisciplinary projects, preparing students for future pathways including the IB Diploma Programme or the IB Career-related Programme.

The school places a high value on student support and guidance, emphasizing that education is not solely focused on grades. Teachers provide students with feedback regarding their strengths and areas for growth. Additionally, the school offers an 'Rplus' class for students in both the lower and upper secondary levels.

The school accepts applications for the bridge class during an official registration week, while applications for other grade levels are accepted until October 1st. Prospective students are encouraged to contact the school directly regarding availability, as some grade levels have limited space or waiting lists. Specific contact persons are designated for the mavo, havo/vwo, and Rplus departments.

The school follows the national Dutch school holiday schedule. The 2026-2027 academic year includes an autumn break in October, a Christmas break from late December to early January, a spring break in February, a May holiday, and a summer break beginning in July. Additional free days and early dismissal moments are scheduled throughout the year to provide students with time for relaxation.

The school is currently developing a new, modern campus at Esserberg in Haren, which is designed to foster international collaboration, discovery, and meeting spaces. This project is a multi-year development intended to provide an inspiring environment that extends learning beyond the traditional classroom. The campus is being built in cooperation with partners, including the International School Groningen.
