Mater Dei Academy

Guided by the Catholic Church's Declaration on Christian Education, Gravissimum Educationis, the Academy seeks to provide a comprehensive, religiously-informed education that promotes the perfection of the human person. The school emphasizes the formation of faith, virtue, and spiritual development, encouraging students to pursue truth, moral integrity, and a life of service. This classical approach integrates the study of reality and existence through philosophy, helping students explore fundamental questions about human life and their unique place in God's creation.

The school provides a six-year programme in the classical tradition. The four-year Junior Cycle (Years 1-4) serves as a systematic introduction to liberal education and leads to Cambridge International GCSE qualifications. The two-year Senior Cycle (Years 5-6) follows the Irish national curriculum, culminating in the Leaving Certificate examination. Core subjects include English, Irish (Gaeilge), Mathematics, and Theology, with additional offerings in French, Latin, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Classical Studies, Art, and Music.

The Academy maintains a focus on the individual needs of its students, offering a nurturing environment that includes a "homeschool with a difference" option. This programme combines personalised instruction and flexibility to cater to unique student requirements.

Admission is open to all boys and girls, with successful applicants demonstrating a commitment to the Academy's ethos and faith-based identity. The application deadline is December 1st, though late applications are considered on a case-by-case basis. The school operates as a non-recognised independent institution and is supported by parent contributions, which are set at €4,500 per family for the 2026/27 academic year; scholarship support is available to ensure no child is refused admission due to financial circumstances.

The academic year follows a standard structure, with admissions currently open for the following September. The school provides a six-year programme, with students typically taking the Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge at the end of their fourth year.

The school is located at 17 Eason’s Hill, Cork. The campus includes facilities to support its academic and creative programmes, such as laboratories for practical science work in biology, chemistry, and physics, as well as studio spaces for art, including drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture.

The school offers a range of after-school subjects and activities, including choir performance, instrument playing, and solo singing. Physical education and activities are designed to be inclusive and team-based, aiming to foster moral virtues and collaborative skills alongside physical development. Additional after-school subjects, provided based on demand and teacher availability, include Applied Mathematics, Economics, Design and Communication Graphics, Spanish, Construction Studies, Politics and Society, and Accounting.
