Guided by the motto "Debeo Possum Volo" (I must, I can, I will), the school focuses on developing confidence, compassion, and a sense of personal value in every student. The school is a not-for-profit institution governed by a volunteer Board of Governors that ensures the school's mission and financial sustainability.

Matthews Hall offers a comprehensive academic program that meets and exceeds Ontario Curriculum guidelines within small class settings. The curriculum spans from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8 and includes core subjects alongside specialized instruction in French, physical education, visual and performing arts, dance, and chess. The school also utilizes a House System to encourage leadership and community engagement.

The school employs teaching faculty trained in Orton-Gillingham methods to support diverse learning needs. All academic staff are required to hold Ontario teaching certification or equivalent and are in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers.

Matthews Hall maintains a transparent and personalized admissions process, inviting prospective families to book individual tours to experience the school during a typical day. The campus features a modern 10-classroom expansion completed in 2020, alongside several acres of grounds designed for active play. Specialized facilities include a library, gymnasium, performing arts studio, drama studio, an innovative maker space, an up-to-date computer lab, and an art gallery. The grounds also house an outdoor classroom and a Peace Garden for contemplation.
