The school offers a comprehensive academic curriculum that includes the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, featuring over 15 IB courses across six subject groups. Students may pursue college credit through articulation agreements with institutions such as Mercyhurst University, Gannon University, and St. Francis University. The McAuley Scholars program provides an accelerated pathway beginning in 8th grade, and seniors have the opportunity to complete their final year of high school while simultaneously beginning their freshman year at Mercyhurst University.

Graduates consistently attend prestigious institutions such as Harvard, Notre Dame, Cornell, the University of Chicago, and the U.S. Naval Academy. In the 2022-2023 academic year, students were awarded $45 million in college scholarships. The school’s curriculum is designed to prepare students for success in both the workforce and post-secondary education.

The admissions process requires submitting an application, registering for the High School Placement Test (HSPT), and scheduling a shadow visit. The school offers need-based financial aid through FACTS and various scholarships, including the Mercy Merit Scholarship for top entrance exam scorers and creative arts grants.

The school operates on a block schedule, with students attending four 90-minute classes per day. The academic year includes specific windows for performing arts productions, auditions, and seasonal concerts, with major events such as the fall and spring musicals, dance recitals, and choral performances scheduled throughout the year.

The 7.25-acre campus features the Mercyhurst Preparatory School Performing Arts Center (PAC), which hosts theatre productions and concerts. Academic and specialized spaces include the Bill and Audrey Hirt DREAM (Design-Research-Engineering-Arts-Math) Lab, equipped with 3D printers, drones, and virtual reality systems, and the modernized Betsy and Bill Vorsheck Library Resource Center. Athletic facilities include the William Vorsheck Jr. Athletic Facility, a shared project with the adjacent Mercyhurst University.

The school offers a wide range of extracurricular activities, including the area's only international competitive high school rowing team. Students participate in performing arts, such as show choir, dance company, and theatre productions, as well as the National Art Honor Society and the International Thespian Society. Service opportunities are integrated into school life, including mission trips and performances at local senior living centers.
