Our Lady of the Nativity

Founded in the Franciscan tradition, the school is committed to the principles of Catholic Social Justice and the belief in the inherent goodness of every individual. It strives to nurture students' faith journeys and encourages them to act as agents of peace and hope, viewing the Gospels as the foundation for all community actions and relationships.

The school delivers the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) for students from Foundation to Year Six, utilizing six transdisciplinary themes to guide inquiry-based learning. This is complemented by explicit instruction in Literacy and Mathematics, following the Victorian Curriculum. Specialist subjects include STEM, Physical Education, Visual Arts, Italian, and Music, while Religious Education is integrated throughout the curriculum, including preparation for the sacraments of Penance, Eucharist, and Confirmation.

The school aims to develop life-long learners who are socially responsible, compassionate, and community-minded. Graduates are expected to communicate effectively, demonstrate respect for cultural diversity, and willingly take action for the common good while living in right relationship with others and creation.

The school provides a holistic approach to wellbeing, overseen by a Student Services coordinator and a Student Welfare Group that supports teachers in assisting students with academic, behavioral, or social-emotional needs. A school counselor is available one day a week through Centacare Catholic Family Services, and the school facilitates referrals to external specialists, including psychologists and speech pathologists. Program Support Group meetings are held regularly for students with disabilities to establish and monitor individual goals.

Enrolments for 2028 and beyond are currently open. Prospective families may contact the school for further information, and school tours are scheduled to resume in March 2027.

The school operates on a yearly cycle that includes regular parish masses, seasonal liturgical celebrations, and an annual student-run social justice fair. Each Friday, a specific year level prepares and participates in the parish mass, while the whole school gathers for mass on major feast days.

The campus features classrooms where wall documentation is used as a pedagogical tool to display the learning process. The school also maintains specific areas for recycling programs, including collection points for soft plastics and food waste, and utilizes various indoor and outdoor spaces for its inquiry-based curriculum and specialist subjects.

Students participate in a variety of social justice initiatives, including food donations for the St Vincent de Paul Society, Christmas gift collections, and fundraising for Caritas Australia. Additionally, students engage in activities such as baking for the Franciscan food van and participating in awareness campaigns linked to their inquiry units.
