Curriculum
Teaching approach
WABE International School follows a progressive pedagogy focused on holistic, student-centered learning, emphasizing project-based and social-emotional learning. The school aims to empower students to unfold their talents as compassionate human beings by encouraging experimentation, valuing mistakes as learning opportunities, and fostering healthy relationships. It promotes student agency, allowing learners to design their own courses and projects to prepare for self-advocacy.
Programmes
The school offers a curriculum spanning grades 1–12, with the IB Diploma Programme provided for grades 11 and 12. The academic model integrates traditional subjects—such as English, mathematics, science, and humanities—through interdisciplinary and project-based learning. A native German programme is also offered, following the state curriculum and standards for Schleswig-Holstein, ensuring students are prepared for success in both German and international contexts.
Outcomes
Students in grade 10 take the Mittlere Reife, as the school is an approved Ersatzschule in Schleswig-Holstein. Graduates of the IB Diploma Programme are prepared for university studies worldwide, with the diploma recognized by many German universities. Alumni have successfully enrolled in higher education institutions after completing their studies at the school.
Student support
Learning support
The school provides dedicated support for both native and non-native English speakers to ensure students can thrive in the English-instruction environment. Additionally, the school employs a team of counsellors, including a primary school counsellor, a middle school counsellor, and a futures counsellor for university and career guidance. Learning support coordinators are also on staff to assist students.
