The school offers a wide spectrum of secondary education, including vmbo (basis, kader, and TL), havo, and vwo, as well as a gymnasium stream. Specialized programmes include the International Transition Class (ISK) for non-native speakers aged 12-18, the Techroute® for technical education, and bilingual education. Additionally, the school provides a 'Bedrijfsleven, Groei en Ondernemerschap' (BGO) programme for upper-level havo students.

The school prepares students for various pathways, ranging from vmbo-basis to gymnasium, with a focus on personal development and future labor market readiness. It hosts annual diploma ceremonies for vmbo, havo, and vwo graduates and facilitates transitions to further education or employment through its diverse curriculum profiles.

Porteum provides a tiered support system, starting with basic support for all students and extending to specialized assistance for those with additional needs. 'De Leerroute' offers a small-scale, highly structured environment for students requiring extra guidance, eventually transitioning them into regular classes over a three-year period. Furthermore, the school is an officially recognized 'Begaafdheidsprofielschool' (Giftedness Profile School), providing tailored education and guidance for more- and highly-gifted students.

The school manages admissions for the upcoming school year during the national registration week, which concludes on March 31. Prospective students must submit an application form via the school's website, and dossiers for students requiring additional support are reviewed by the school's support teams to determine appropriate placement. For the current school year, applications are handled directly through the student administration office.

The academic year typically begins in mid-August and concludes in early July. The calendar includes standard Dutch school holidays such as autumn, Christmas, spring, and May breaks, as well as public holidays like Easter, Ascension Day, and Whit Monday. Additionally, the school schedules specific development days throughout the year where students may have modified or free schedules.

The campus is a modern, sustainable facility located in Lelystad, consisting of six individual school buildings and a dedicated culture building. Each of the six school buildings serves as a 'home base' for a specific group of students, featuring its own entrance, bicycle storage, and schoolyard to provide a secure and manageable environment.

Students have access to various enrichment opportunities, including the Techroute® for technical and technological projects and the Technasium, which offers context-rich, problem-based learning. The school also hosts events such as the annual 'Prom Porteum' gala for examination candidates and provides opportunities for students to engage in arts, culture, and entrepreneurship.
