The Mahindra United World College of India (MUWCI) is a residential, international pre-university college located on a biodiversity reserve near Pune, India. Established in 1997, it offers a transformative IB Diploma Programme to students aged 16 to 19 from over 70 nationalities.

MUWCI is part of the UWC movement, which uses education to unite people, nations, and cultures for peace and a sustainable future. The college is built on seven principles: embracing diversity, fostering intercultural understanding, promoting healthy lifestyles, engaging with the community, caring for the environment, encouraging personal initiative, and helping every student reach their full potential. The educational model is centered on five core competencies: curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, courage, and compassion.

Programmes

The school offers the two-year International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, which is extended by the "MUWCI Core" curriculum—a signature, in-house programme addressing global challenges through modules on Culture & Peace Studies, Sustainability & Climate, Health & Well-Being, and Digital Literacy & AI. Students select six subjects from groups including Language & Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals & Societies, Experimental Sciences, Mathematics, and the Arts. The programme also includes the Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE), and the Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) component.

Outcomes

Graduates receive the IB Diploma and a separate MUWCI Diploma. Alumni join a global network and pursue higher education at top universities worldwide, with many crediting their MUWCI experience as a transformative foundation for their professional and personal lives. The school provides dedicated university guidance and counselling throughout the two-year programme.

MUWCI offers three primary application routes: the UWC National Committee system (recommended for those seeking needs-based financial support), the Global Selection Programme (for self-funding students), and the International Application Pathway (for eligible students without access to a National Committee). The selection process is competitive and rigorous, focusing on five core competencies: curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, courage, and compassion. Indian citizens, NRIs, and Overseas Citizens of India may apply through UWC India.

Calendar

About the campus

Designed by architect Christopher Benninger, the open-layout campus features traditional Indian architectural elements like Wadas, courtyards, and lotus ponds. Facilities include state-of-the-art academic buildings, the Li-Doshi swimming pool, a library, a games room, and a multi-purpose lawn. The 175-acre campus includes the Van Vihar Biodiversity Park & Reserve, which covers 85% of the grounds and features walking trails, medicinal plant gardens, and an organic farm.

Co-curriculars

The school’s experiential learning programme, "Triveni," exceeds standard IB CAS requirements, incorporating mandatory on- and off-campus service, creative projects, and four weeks of project-based learning across India. Students participate in student-led initiatives, outdoor challenges, and theatre seasons. The campus also features a student-run Fire & Rescue Service and various clubs and activities that promote personal growth and active citizenship.
