Sri Lankan International School

The school is an independent, non-profit community institution that emphasizes integrity, respect, knowledge, innovation, and optimism. It aims to empower students to become critical thinkers and socially responsible individuals, guided by moral values and a commitment to tolerance, diversity, and harmony. The Early Years programme specifically utilizes a child-focused, play-based approach that incorporates the AMI method and LPF philosophy to nurture curiosity and independence.

The school offers a curriculum spanning Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12, utilizing the National Curriculum of England for Preschool, Lower School, and Middle School, and the International Primary Curriculum for primary years. High school students follow the Pearson Edexcel IGCSE, International Advanced Subsidiary, and International Advanced Level programmes. Computer studies are integrated into the curriculum from Grade 3 onwards, and the school maintains a focus on interdisciplinary studies, including reading, writing, arithmetic, science, geography, and world ecology.

The school provides extra support for students identified as having gaps in their learning during the assessment process. Additionally, English language support is available to assist students in accessing the curriculum.

The school assesses all prospective students prior to entry to ensure they can access the curriculum, including an evaluation of language ability. While English language support is available, the school generally only accepts children with limited English proficiency in the Lower School; Middle and High School requirements are stricter and determined on a case-by-case basis. Applications are processed through an online system, and the school only admits students it believes will be successful in its academic environment.

The academic year typically begins in August, with staff reporting for duty shortly before students return. The school follows a schedule that includes periods for Pearson Edexcel examinations, which generally conclude in June. The school calendar also incorporates various parent-teacher meetings and board-level engagements throughout the year.

The campus is comprised of three buildings housing the boys' wing, girls' wing, and the primary section, with separate play areas for boys and girls. Academic facilities include three science laboratories (physics, chemistry, and biology), a science room, and two fully equipped computer laboratories. The school also provides two libraries, a mini indoor play area for sports like badminton and table tennis, and dedicated sick rooms for the girls' and primary wings.

Students participate in a wide range of sporting activities, including soccer, badminton, netball, cricket, basketball, and athletics. Co-scholastic offerings include debate, poetry, oratory, spelling bees, recitations, writing skills, and mental mathematics. Additionally, the school hosts various clubs and societies, such as media, photography, young inventors, and Arabic, to foster student cooperation and engagement.
