The academy is committed to academic excellence, outstanding pastoral care, and successful student development. The school promotes core values of Manners, Acceptance, Respect, and Kindness (MARK), aiming to develop well-rounded, responsible young people equipped for a competitive world.

The curriculum is broad, balanced, and knowledge-rich, with a strong academic core alongside creative and technical subjects. Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) covers a wide range of subjects including English, Maths, Science, Humanities, Languages, and the Arts. At Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11), students pursue a core curriculum of English, Maths, and Science, supplemented by a variety of GCSE options. The Sixth Form (Years 12-13) offers a range of A Level and vocational Level 3 courses, with opportunities for GCSE retakes in English and Maths.

Beacon Academy was judged 'Outstanding' in all five inspection categories by Ofsted in April 2024. The school focuses on ensuring students achieve the best possible qualifications and are prepared for aspirational destinations, including higher education and fulfilling careers. Students are encouraged to become 'MARK scholars'—motivated, articulate, resilient, and knowledgeable.

The academy maintains an inclusive learning culture that supports all students, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Expert teaching and evidence-based strategies are used to ensure all students can access the curriculum. Targeted support is provided for literacy, and the school employs specific staff to oversee SEND provision.

Beacon Academy is a non-selective, mixed 11-18 converter academy. It draws students from over ten local primary schools, as well as from Kent and the independent sector, creating a comprehensive intake. In-year applications for Years 7-11 are managed directly by the academy or through East Sussex County Council, while Sixth Form admissions are handled directly by the school. The academy follows the School Admissions Code 2021 and maintains a waiting list for oversubscribed years.

The academic year is divided into six terms. The calendar includes key events such as mock exams, work experience weeks, enrichment days, and various welcome evenings for different year groups. It also features specific dates for exam results, INSET days, and public holidays. Parents can subscribe to year-specific or general calendars to receive automatic updates.

Beacon Academy operates on a split-site basis, with the Beeches site serving Years 7-11 and a specialist Sixth Form Centre located on Green Lane. The school’s facilities include a Sports Hall, gymnasium, Astro Turf pitch, grass pitches, a main hall with a stage and professional lighting, a dance studio, a drama studio, and various classrooms. Many of these facilities are available for hire by community groups and organisations.

The academy offers a wide range of enrichment opportunities, including trips, visits, and guest speakers. Students can participate in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, music, drama, and dance performances, and various sports teams. The school also hosts events like BeaconFest and provides opportunities for student leadership through the Academy Council and other initiatives.
