Admissions

St Gabriel’s welcomes boys and girls from age 6 months into its Nursery, with progression through to the Junior School (Reception to Year 6) and Senior School (Year 7 to Year 11).     Mr Ricki Smith joined St Gabriel’s as Principal in September 2016. He holds an MA (Hons) in English and History, a PGCE in Secondary English, and an MEd in Educational Leadership. His prior experience includes teaching at Highfield Prep School, Framlingham College, and Gravesend Grammar School for Girls, as well as serving as Head of Sixth Form and Deputy Head Pastoral at Headington School.

    Mrs Emma Hammons was appointed Vice-Principal in September 2025. She read Law and Politics at Keele University and holds a PGCE in Social Science with History. Previously, she was Head of Politics at a south London state school and served as St Gabriel's Head of Upper School and Deputy Head (Pastoral) after joining in 2013.

  • Peter DoveHead of Junior School

    Mr Peter Dove became Head of the Junior School in 2009 and is a member of the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS). He trained as a primary school teacher at Roehampton after working in The City and previously served as a Deputy Head of a local primary school. At St Gabriel's, he has managed the integration of the Pre-Prep Department, the development of Sandleford Nursery, and the transition to a co-educational Junior School.

  • Anna ChickenDeputy Head (Academic)

    Mrs Anna Chicken was appointed Deputy Head (Academic) in September 2023 and is also the Senior School’s Challenge and Extension Co-ordinator. She read Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Oxford and holds a PGCE in Middle Years Mathematics. She has taught Mathematics at St Gabriel’s for 17 years and previously served as the school’s Director of Studies.

  • Rebecca WrightDeputy Head (Pastoral)

    Mrs Rebecca Wright was appointed Deputy Head (Pastoral) in September 2025. She joined St Gabriel's in 2003 and teaches PE in the Senior School. Prior to her current role, she held the positions of Head of Upper School and Head of Lower School.

  • Hannah TrevisHead of Sixth Form

    Mrs Hannah Trevis became Head of Sixth Form in September 2020. She read Social Anthropology at the University of Manchester and holds a PGCE in Religious Studies. Since joining St Gabriel’s in 2013, she has served as Head of Religion, Philosophy and Ethics, Head of Lower School, and Director of Teaching and Learning.

  • Jennifer ShillawHead of Upper School (Years 9, 10 & 11)

    Mrs Jennifer Shillaw was appointed Head of Upper School in September 2023. She joined St Gabriel's in 2016 as Head of History and Politics, having previously taught at Scarborough College, Kimbolton School, and Rossall School. She holds a PGCE in History from the University of York.
