Steinmuehle International Primary and Secondary School

The educational philosophy centers on promoting independence, individuality, and social responsibility. The school offers a Bilingual Elementary School (grades 1–4) with a flexible transition phase, and a high school (Gymnasium) that includes an international track. The curriculum features project-based learning for grades 5–10, a strong focus on STEM (MINT) subjects, and a bilingual approach using both English and German. The boarding school provides additional support for students from grade 5 through the upper school.

The school prepares students for college, vocational training, and future careers by fostering methodological, collaboration, and communication skills. Project-based learning, which is mandatory for grades 5–10, requires students to solve problems, conduct research, and present findings, preparing them for life after school. The Bilingual Elementary School curriculum is designed to allow students to transition into either the German or international school systems.

The school provides a support system for all grade levels, including a "Lernbüro" (learning office) in the boarding school. Psychological and medical support services are available on-site, and the school emphasizes individualized instruction and small learning groups. Teachers and assistants provide targeted support, including "German as a Second Language" and "English as a Second Language" where necessary.

The admissions process is structured and personalized, beginning with an inquiry and document review, followed by a telephone consultation. Prospective families are invited to visit the campus to meet students and staff, and students participate in a trial stay to experience daily life and learning. Admission is granted based on a joint decision to ensure a good fit for the student, the family, and the school.

The school operates on a full-day basis. The Bilingual Elementary School day includes an open start, morning circle, breakfast, lunch in the dining hall, and optional afternoon care until 17:00. The school also supports students in finding holiday programs through the city of Marburg.

Located in the Cappel district of Marburg, the campus features historic buildings, including an old mill, the Bremerhaus, and the Westfalenhaus. Modern facilities include a gymnasium, a boathouse, the Forum (with a library, music rooms, and an auditorium), "Centrum 5/6" for grades 5–6, and the "Atrium 7-10" middle school building. The campus also houses a cafeteria, a bistro, a riding school, and a hydroelectric power plant.

Students participate in a wide range of activities, including internal clubs, a riding school, a rowing club, and tennis. The school also offers music, art, and theater programs, as well as "plus-MINT" talent programs, "Jugend forscht" (youth research), and various sports and health initiatives. Students engage in class meetings, mediation programs, and school trips.
