Stonyhurst College

Founded in 1593, Stonyhurst is the world’s oldest continuously active Jesuit school, guided by the motto Quant je puis ("as much as I can"). The school’s philosophy is rooted in the Jesuit tradition, focusing on the formation of the whole person—intellectually, spiritually, physically, and emotionally. It emphasizes service, justice, and the development of character, conscience, and compassion to prepare pupils to "set the world on fire" and make a positive impact on the common good.

The school is structured into two sections: Stonyhurst St Mary’s Hall (ages 3–11) and Stonyhurst College (ages 11–18). The academic curriculum is rigorous and includes GCSE pathways, A Levels, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, and Cambridge Technical qualifications. Specialist departments cover a wide range of subjects, including the sciences, humanities, arts, and languages, supported by small class sizes and a 1:7 teacher-to-pupil ratio.

Stonyhurst pupils achieve strong academic results, with 98% achieving A-C grades and 88% securing their first-choice university. Approximately 72% of pupils go on to gain places at Russell Group universities.
