HSV International Primary School

The school is committed to developing the whole child to become an internationally-minded leader, guided by the principles of 'global citizenship, lifelong learning.' The school emphasizes the importance of understanding the language and culture of the host country, the Netherlands, while maintaining a tight-knit, small learning environment.

The school delivers the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), which is organized into mileposts from the Early Years Foundation Stage through to year six (ID6). The academic programme includes the UK National Curriculum requirements for Literacy and Numeracy, supported by the 'Power of Reading' approach and 'White Rose' mathematics. Additionally, the school provides Host Country Culture and Language (HCCL) lessons, music, expressive arts, and physical education, with older pupils at the NSL location receiving specialist instruction in these areas.

The school provides English as an Additional Language (EAL) support for the approximately 90% of students who speak other languages at home. This support includes short withdrawal sessions for specific vocabulary and literacy skills, as well as in-class assistance from EAL specialists. The school also offers a dedicated special international primary education programme for children aged 3 to 13 years at its Lighthouse location.

The school admits children aged 4 to 11 years into its International Department across four locations in The Hague. Applicants must be of non-Dutch nationality with parents working temporarily in the Netherlands, or Dutch nationals who have previously received at least two years of international English-language education or expect to move abroad within two years. The application process requires a registration of interest, submission of supplementary forms, and proof of temporary residence from an employer. No interview is required, and a non-refundable application processing fee of €150 applies.

The school year typically runs from late August to late July, with major breaks including an October holiday, a two-week Christmas holiday, a spring holiday, and a May holiday. The calendar includes several designated study days throughout the year and early closure days for events such as Sinterklaas and the start of holiday periods. Specific dates for the 2026-27 academic year begin on 31st August 2026 and conclude with the summer holiday starting 19th July 2027.

The school operates across four distinct locations in The Hague: Koningin Sophiestraat (KSS), Van Heutszstraat (VHS), Nassaulaan (NSL), and Van Nijenrodestraat (VNS). The KSS site, housed in a 1920s building, features seven international classes and is located near Koningin Sophiepark. All classrooms are equipped with computers linked to the school network, interactive screens with internet access, and access to iPads to support the curriculum.
