UWC Robert Bosch College

The school is committed to education for peace and sustainability, based on the ideas of reform pedagogue Kurt Hahn. The core academic programme is the two-year International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, which is taught in English. This is complemented by an experiential learning curriculum that includes outdoor education, service learning, and project-based work. The school maintains a student-to-teacher ratio of 8:1 to facilitate personalized learning.

UWC Robert Bosch College does not accept direct applications. Prospective students must apply through one of the 160 UWC National Committees worldwide. The school offers a needs-based scholarship program, with 96% of the student body receiving financial support to ensure deliberate diversity.

The school year follows a standard academic calendar, with key dates and events published on the college website. The campus hosts various public events throughout the year, including the 'Kultur in der Kartause' charity concert series, readings, and an annual Open Day.

Located on the grounds of a former Carthusian monastery in Freiburg, the campus blends historical architecture with modern design. The historic Kartause houses classrooms, offices, and the Weickart Library, while the boarding section consists of twelve modern residential cubes. Additional facilities include a canteen, an auditorium for performances and events, a polytunnel greenhouse for scientific experiments, and a washhouse currently being transformed into student workshops and lounges.

The school emphasizes experiential learning through a robust CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) program, project weeks, and outdoor education. Students participate in service learning projects, such as the Stolpersteine initiative, and engage in student-led groups like the Democracy Crew and a sustainability podcast. The campus also features a 19-hectare school forest and a 600-year-old monastery garden used for organic cultivation and scientific study.
