Villiers School

Founded in 1821, the school maintains a traditionally Protestant ethos while fostering a diverse, multicultural community that has represented 96 countries historically. The school is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion, holding the BRIDGE Standard from the Inclusion & Equity Leadership Association (IELA) and the Belong To LGBTQ+ Quality Mark. Its mission is to provide a broad, balanced education that develops life and learning skills, encouraging students to act with integrity, responsibility, and kindness.

The school follows a six-year secondary programme. This includes the three-year Junior Cycle (Forms I-III), a one-year Transition Year (Form IV), and a two-year senior cycle (Forms V-VI) where students choose between the Irish Leaving Certificate and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). The IBDP is a fully private programme, while the Junior Cycle, Transition Year, and Leaving Certificate receive some government funding. The curriculum is supported by supervised study and a focus on critical thinking and independent projects.

Graduates of Villiers School progress to a variety of universities in Ireland, the UK, Europe, and beyond, including institutions such as Trinity College Dublin, the University of Cambridge, University College Dublin, and Maastricht University. The school emphasizes the development of life and learning skills, aiming to prepare students to face future challenges with awareness, integrity, and a sense of global citizenship.

Villiers School provides a dedicated Learning Support Department to assist students with learning differences. Villiers School accepts applications for both day and boarding students. Day student applications are managed through the Limerick Area Post-Primary Schools Common Application System, while boarding applications are submitted directly to the school. The admissions process begins with an online Expression of Interest form. The school provides grant information for members of the Protestant community through the Secondary Education Committee.

The school year is structured around mid-term breaks in October and February, as well as Christmas and Easter holidays. The calendar includes scheduled staff inservice days, public holidays, and fortnightly exeat weekends for boarding students. Key annual events include an Open Day in September, Prize Day in October, a Christmas Market, a Carol Service, and a Garden Fête in May. Parent-teacher meetings and online information evenings for various year groups are held throughout the academic year.

Located on the North Circular Road in Limerick, the campus includes the historic Tivoli House and the restored Derravoher House. Derravoher House serves as a hub for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and contains a state-of-the-art library and study rooms. The school provides full boarding facilities and maintains sports and academic spaces to support its diverse student body.
