Westlake Academy

The school is an IB Continuum School that fosters the attributes of the IB Learner Profile. Its mission is to develop compassionate, life-long learners through a balanced, internationally-minded education that empowers students to contribute to an interconnected world. The school emphasizes academic excellence, personal responsibility, and respect for self and others.

The school offers the full International Baccalaureate (IB) continuum: the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for elementary students, the Middle Years Programme (MYP) for middle schoolers, and the Diploma Programme (DP) for students aged 16-19. The DP is a rigorous, inquiry-based, pre-collegiate curriculum that requires all 11th and 12th-grade students to be diploma candidates. The academic program is designed to align with both IB standards and Texas Education Agency (TEA) requirements.

Westlake Academy reports a 100% graduation rate. Over the last five years, 89% of students have earned an IB Diploma, with recent annual pass rates reaching 90% compared to a global average of approximately 80%.

The school provides special education services, including a dedicated special education staff, child find policies, and dyslexia information. It also offers Section 504 services and counseling support, including a Hope Squad and mental health and wellness resources.

Westlake Academy is an open-enrollment, tuition-free college preparatory charter school operated by the Town of Westlake. Admission is based on student residency within a primary boundary (the Town of Westlake) or a secondary boundary encompassing numerous surrounding Independent School Districts. The school utilizes a lottery system to establish waitlist order for prospective students.

The school operates on an A/B block schedule. The academic calendar includes standard school year dates, with specific event and athletic calendars published annually.

The campus is located in Westlake, Texas, and includes facilities for academic instruction, athletics, and library services. The school maintains a Westlake Cafe for student dining and utilizes various campus spaces for its K-12 programming. Financial and administrative support for the physical site is provided through the Town of Westlake’s municipal budget.

Students may participate in a variety of clubs and after-school activities. The school also maintains a House System and offers athletic programs, with some students in grades 7-10 eligible for an Off-Campus Physical Education (OCPE) program for high-level, professionally supervised training.
