Broomhill Bank School North
Updated July 2026
Broomhill Bank School is a special educational needs school that provides a broad academic and therapeutic curriculum designed to prepare students for independent adulthood and future employment or further education.
Curriculum
Teaching approach
The school’s core mission is "Preparation for Life," aiming to equip students to become independent, aspirational adults with a lifelong thirst for knowledge and self-improvement. It emphasizes a holistic approach that combines a broad academic grounding with a strong focus on student health, safety, and emotional well-being. The school is committed to recruiting and developing high-quality practitioners and is a member of the Kent Special Educational Needs Trust (KsENT).
Programmes
The school offers a curriculum that spans Key Stages 4 and 5, with a Sixth Form programme that provides both Level 2 (GCSE equivalent) and Level 3 (A-Level equivalent) qualifications. The Sixth Form curriculum includes core and option lessons, independent study time, and a mandatory experiential programme focused on vocational training, work experience, or therapeutic intervention. The school maintains strong partnerships with local institutions, including the Hadlow Group of colleges, to facilitate student transitions into further education.
Student support
Learning support
The school provides extensive therapeutic and specialist support, including Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) and Occupational Therapy (OT). The staff are trained in specialist interventions such as TEACCH and Communication and Interaction (C and I) strategies, with a particular focus on supporting students with High-Functioning Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, and social communication needs. Emotional well-being, resilience, and self-esteem are central to the support framework.

Admissions
All student referrals are coordinated through the Kent Education SEN Department and require an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or a Statement of Special Educational Need. The Local Authority determines if the school is a suitable placement based on the child's age, ability, aptitude, and specific needs, while also consulting with the school's Governing Body. Once a placement is confirmed, the school initiates a comprehensive induction and transition process for the student and their family.
Calendar
The school operates on a term-based calendar that includes scheduled reporting periods for parents, celebration events for all year groups, and various in-school activities. Specific term dates and event schedules are published and updated regularly on the school's website.
About the campus
The school operates across two sites, referred to as the North and West sites. The campus includes residential houses that provide a "waking day" curriculum for some students, alongside specialized classroom environments.
Co-curriculars
Sixth Form students participate in an experiential programme on Fridays, which includes pathways such as vocational college placements, long-term work experience (WEX), therapeutic intervention, or volunteering. These activities are designed to develop student autonomy and independence.
