The Ecole Primaire Française de Genève is an AEFE-homologated private school that delivers the French national curriculum within the Swiss context of Geneva. It serves students from Grande Section (2P) through CM2, combining French academic excellence with a plurilingual approach.
Curriculum
Teaching approach
The school is a community-focused institution built on the values of tolerance, mutual aid, and secularism. It aims to provide an ambitious and innovative pedagogical environment that prepares students for future challenges through a focus on languages, citizenship, digital literacy, science, and the arts. The school emphasizes a strong partnership between teachers, staff, and families to ensure the success of every student.
Programmes
The school offers primary education organized into cycles: Cycle 1 (Grande Section), Cycle 2 (CP, CE1, CE2), and Cycle 3 (CM1, CM2). The curriculum includes 25 hours of instruction per week, with additional time dedicated to languages: English is taught from GS to CM2, and German is provided for CM1 and CM2 students to facilitate integration into the Swiss system. Students also receive instruction in digital tools, including word processing, spreadsheets, and programming, and participate in a structured sports program that includes swimming, sailing, and paddle boarding.
Outcomes
Students follow the French National Education curriculum and take national evaluations, as well as Swiss cantonal evaluations in CE1 (4P) and CM2 (8P). The school facilitates transitions to the Swiss system, with CM1 and CM2 programs adapted to include German instruction. Graduates may pursue secondary education at the Collège de Gaillard, private schools within the GESBF network, or the Swiss public system, where they may be integrated into the 8P or 9CO levels depending on their age and test results.
Student support
Learning support
The school provides individualized support for students experiencing difficulties, including small-group interventions and tutoring during school hours. Educational teams work closely with parents and external specialists to create personalized aid projects. A designated school doctor manages health-related aspects, including chronic illnesses, allergies, and epidemic prevention.

Admissions
Admission is competitive due to limited capacity, with a formal process involving a pre-registration email, an online form, and a school visit. A commission meets in February to review applications based on established priorities: siblings of current students, students from the French or AEFE system, French nationality, prior enrollment in 1P, and the date of pre-registration. Finalized enrollment requires submission of administrative documents and payment of a 500 CHF fee, followed by an integration morning for the child. Applicants must be domiciled in the canton of Geneva, and those entering Grande Section (2P) must have completed at least one year of prior schooling.
Calendar
The school operates on a unique calendar that is not strictly aligned with Swiss or French (Académie de Grenoble) schedules, particularly regarding public holidays. The calendar is discussed and voted upon annually by the School Council, which includes elected parent representatives, and must be validated by the AEFE and the French Embassy in Bern. The school year includes six additional working days compared to the French calendar to accommodate extra language instruction. Absences for personal convenience are not accepted.
Facilities
About the campus
Located in the Eaux-Vives district of Geneva, the school occupies a historic building designed by a student of Le Corbusier, which is registered as a protected site. The campus includes a computer lab equipped with tablets, interactive whiteboards in every classroom, and Thymio robots for programming instruction. Dining facilities consist of a small room with adapted furniture for GS and CP students and a large hall for older students, with meals provided by the company Eldora.
Co-curriculars
The school offers a variety of activities, including English days, theater in English for CM2 students, and English breakfasts for GS and CP levels. Students participate in biennial school trips, with destinations such as Berlin for CM1 and CM2 students to support their German language learning. The Association of Parents (APE) organizes community events throughout the year, such as the Escalade race, cake sales, and the school festival. While the school does not provide on-site after-school care, it maintains information on local options, including the Institut Jacques Dalcroze for music and neighborhood centers in Eaux-Vives.
