Teaching approach
The school is dedicated to the 'formation' of young people, focusing on character development, curiosity, and the pursuit of one's personal best rather than just academic statistics. It encourages students to be 'purposefully uncomfortable' to build resilience and perspective. The school values the 'Renaissance child'—individuals who are intellectually curious, compassionate, and open-minded, and who are taught how to think rather than what to think.
Programmes
The school provides an all-through education from Nursery and Pre-School through to Prep, Senior School, and Sixth Form. The curriculum is broad and innovative, integrating technology across all subjects. Sixth Form students choose from 24 A Level subjects, complemented by the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). The academic programme is supported by a teacher-led inquiry approach known as the Embley Thinking Curriculum.
Outcomes
Students are prepared for a range of future paths, including university and professional careers, through a portfolio of academic results and a developed emotional and intellectual toolkit. The school reports high levels of achievement and success in public examinations, with Sixth Form students pursuing A Level studies and university preparation. Graduates are described as independent, curious, and authentic individuals capable of navigating change.
Student support
Learning support
The school maintains a focus on individual development and pastoral care, ensuring every child's progress is known in detail. Teachers utilize evidence-based research and cognitive psychology to inform their practice, and the school employs a 'Thinking Curriculum' to enhance critical thinking and logical reasoning skills. The school is an HMC-accredited institution, reflecting its commitment to holistic development and academic excellence.
