Europaskolan in Södermalm

Europaskolan aims to create a challenging and inclusive environment that combines the Swedish national curriculum with the International Baccalaureate framework. It promotes democratic values and seeks to develop independent, globally-minded citizens who are capable of collaborating to enact positive change. The school fosters a safe, family-like atmosphere by maintaining small class sizes and encouraging strong relationships between staff and students.

The school offers the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the Middle Years Programme (MYP). The PYP is a transdisciplinary curriculum focused on units of inquiry, culminating in a final-year Exhibition, while the MYP emphasizes conceptual understanding, global contexts, and service-as-action. Additionally, the school provides an After School Care (ASC) programme for pupils in PYP years 1 through 4.

The school provides weekly after-school tutoring in all subjects and dedicated special education instructional support. In accordance with Swedish law, it offers mother-tongue instruction for students who share a language other than Swedish. A student health team, including a school nurse and counselor, is available to support student well-being, and each pupil is assigned a staff mentor.

Europaskolan operates a queue-based admission system, with applications accepted throughout the year. Placements are determined by queue regulations that prioritize siblings, proximity to the school, and time spent in the queue. The school is fee-free and serves students from IB Early Years (starting the year they turn five) through the Middle Years Programme.

The main campus is located on Södermalm at Gotlandsgatan 43 and is currently undergoing renovations to its classrooms, entrance, and lobby. The school also utilizes Eknäs Gård, a 15-hectare countryside site 35 kilometres south of Stockholm, for practical, experiential learning. Physical education activities often take place off-campus at local facilities, including swimming halls, ice-skating rinks, and rock-climbing gyms.

The school emphasizes community service, with students participating in projects such as supporting a school in Kenya and working with the elderly in India. Students also engage in a Student Council to influence school life. Additionally, the After School Care (ASC) programme offers activities including arts and crafts, science experiments, and guided educational play.
