The International School of the Stockholm Region (ISSR) is a publicly funded, English-speaking IB World School founded by the City of Stockholm. It serves a diverse student body of over 600 students from more than 70 countries, preparing them for a multilingual and multicultural world.

Programmes

ISSR is an accredited IB continuum school offering all four International Baccalaureate programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme (DP), and the Career-related Programme (CP). The curriculum is designed to challenge students to become creative, critical, and reflective thinkers. Every student from M6 to DP2 is provided with a laptop to support their academic studies.

Learning support

A professional student health and wellbeing team supports students, consisting of a nurse, a school counsellor, and special needs teachers. This team works proactively to ensure all students receive an equal education and the necessary support to achieve their goals. The school also collaborates with local social services, the county council, and the police to support student welfare.

Admissions

The school is publicly funded by the City of Stockholm and operates without tuition fees, though non-EU/EEA/Swiss diplomatic families must pay fees for grades 10–12. Admission to the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP) is restricted to families with a temporary work contract. The Diploma Programme (DP) is open to both local and international communities, with priority given to those with temporary work contracts. Applications are managed via an online system, and the school does not maintain a waiting list.

Calendar

The academic year is divided into two terms, beginning in August and concluding in June. The schedule includes a fall break in October, a winter break, and spring and sports breaks. Specific dates for terms, holidays, and teacher training days are managed through the school's internal portal, ManageBac.

About the campus

The school is centrally located on Södermalm, near the Skanstull metro station. The campus features a library with a quiet study room, an auditorium, multiple science laboratories, a gymnasium, a soccer field, a student café, and an off-street playground. Due to major renovations at the Bohusgatan site, the school will temporarily relocate to Kärrtorp gymnasium in Johanneshov from August 2026 to June 2028.

Co-curriculars

The school encourages student participation in activities beyond scheduled lessons across all programmes. Students engage in various clubs and projects, including over 30 Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) clubs for DP students. The school also maintains a bee-hive to contribute to biodiversity and participates in international collaborations, such as the Erasmus+ Mobility Programme and the Atlas programme, which involve student exchanges and Model United Nations conferences.
