Girls Global Academy is an all-girls public charter high school in Washington, DC, serving as a training ground for global citizenship, business, and engineering. It is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School dedicated to empowering young women to influence change for global benefit.

Teaching approach

Programmes

The CARE Team, overseen by a nationally board-certified counselor, includes a wellness specialist, a licensed clinical social worker, and a school-based behavioral therapist. This team provides trauma-informed social-emotional and mental health support, including individual and group counseling, restorative practices, and conflict resolution. The school maintains a full-inclusion model for students with disabilities and English Language Learners, providing tiered supports, modifications, and accommodations as outlined in IEPs and 504 plans.

Admissions

Girls Global Academy participates in the My School DC (MSDC) common application lottery. Prospective students must reside in the District of Columbia and provide proof of residency. While the school does not conduct aptitude or achievement tests, it offers enrollment preferences for children of staff and siblings of currently enrolled students. Students transferring into the 11th grade must have earned 13 credits, including two each in English, mathematics, social studies, and science, plus five elective credits. The school does not admit new 12th-grade students.

Calendar

The school operates on a quarterly academic system. The academic year typically concludes in mid-June. The calendar includes designated days for staff professional development, during which there is no school for students, as well as observances for U.S. national holidays.
