Kyoto International School (KIS) is a not-for-profit, IB World School serving the Kyoto community since 1957. It is the city's first and only IB Continuum School, offering a globally recognized education from Early Years through to the Diploma Programme.

Programmes

KIS is an IB World School offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and the Diploma Programme (DP). The school is currently expanding its secondary offerings, with Grade 11 opening in August 2025 and Grade 12 in 2026. Additionally, the school provides a Saturday School programme for children aged 3 to 12, which focuses on English immersion through interactive activities and projects.

Outcomes

The school prepares students for university through a personalized college counseling programme that begins in Grade 10. This includes individual meetings, group sessions on application systems and essay writing, and participation in university fairs to help students make informed decisions about their future academic paths.

Admissions

About the campus

The school operates across two locations: the Juraku Campus and the Taiken Campus. Facilities include a school library designed as a whole-school space for cooperative learning, research, and reading. To support its expansion to a full K-12 programme, the school is currently enhancing its facilities and opening a second campus.

Co-curriculars

The school offers a wide range of co-curricular activities, including free teacher-led 'Bukatsu' clubs such as calligraphy, gardening, reading, board games, photography, dance, fitness, sports, and STEM. Paid specialized lessons are also available, including aikido, coding, drama, basketball, ikebana, and piano. Additionally, the school hosts a vibrant summer day camp featuring hands-on projects, crafts, physical activities, and local day trips.
