Newcastle School for Boys

The school aims to provide an excellent all-round education within a supportive, inclusive community that promotes wellbeing. It focuses on challenging and supporting each pupil to achieve high levels of individual academic progress and character development. From September 2026, the school will transition to a fully co-educational model, becoming The Newcastle School, while maintaining its commitment to small class sizes and individualised learning.

The school offers an all-through curriculum from Early Years to Sixth Form. The academic programme is designed to prepare pupils for GCSEs and further study, with a focus on tailored learning and expert teaching. The curriculum is supported by a character education programme that runs throughout a pupil's time at the school.

Many pupils progress to competitive universities, including Oxbridge and Russell Group institutions, while others pursue successful careers or professional sports. The school consistently outperforms national standards in public examinations, with over 97% of pupils achieving grades 9-4 at GCSE based on recent three-year results. Pupils also participate in a character education programme designed to develop values such as integrity, respect, courage, and leadership.

The school maintains small class sizes to ensure that every pupil is well-known to staff and treated as an individual. A strong pastoral care framework is in place to support pupils with matters both within and outside of school, ensuring they are prepared for the challenges of life.

The school accepts applications for entry throughout the year, with main entry points at Nursery, Reception, Year 5, Year 7, and the Sixth Form. It is committed to equal treatment for all candidates regardless of background and encourages prospective families to visit during a normal school day or at scheduled open events. Applications are currently being accepted for September 2026 and beyond.

The school operates on a termly basis, with fees payable by Direct Debit in 10 monthly instalments from September to June. The academic year includes various events such as concerts, prize days, and sports fixtures, with term dates and specific schedules managed by the school administration.

The school is located in the heart of Gosforth across multiple sites: the Junior School (Nursery to Year 6) is situated on North Avenue and West Avenue, while the Senior School (Years 7 to 11) and Sixth Form (Years 12 to 13) are located on The Grove and Moor Road South, respectively. Plans are in place to consolidate all Junior School pupils onto the West Avenue site by 2026. The facilities include dedicated learning environments, a Sixth Form centre, and access to sports grounds.

Pupils participate in a wide range of activities, including performing arts, STEM clubs, and competitive sports such as rugby. The school organises educational and sporting trips, including international travel to destinations like Florida, CERN, India, and South Africa. Additionally, pupils engage in community service, charitable work, and work experience placements.
