Poplar Academy

The school is founded on the principle of being "Simply Different," aiming to provide a supportive and nurturing environment that fosters self-confidence and whole-person effectiveness. The school offers a comprehensive educational journey starting with an early childhood development centre for children aged 2 to 5. Primary education follows the CAPS curriculum for Grades R to 5, while the secondary pathway (Intermediate to FET) transitions to the Cambridge curriculum, offering IGCSE and AS Level qualifications. Additionally, the school provides an online/blended learning option through "Poplar Connect" for students aged 13 to 18 and serves as a University of Cambridge international exam centre. French is offered as a third language.

Poplar Academy maintains small class sizes of between 12 and 16 learners to ensure a supportive and nurturing environment. The school employs a multi-sensory approach to teaching, with a specific focus on developing study and thinking skills to assist learners with their education and prepare them for lifelong learning. Poplar Academy accepts registrations throughout the school year for children from birth onwards, with priority given to siblings of current learners. The enrolment process requires the submission of registration forms, a birth certificate, and the most recent school report. Prospective families are invited to participate in a complimentary trial week, during which the student attends regular classes and undergoes an assessment to determine if the school is a suitable fit.

The school operates on a four-term academic calendar. In 2026, the first term commences on 14 January and concludes on 27 March, followed by the second term from 14 April to 26 June. The third term runs from 21 July to 23 September, and the final term begins on 13 October, ending on 2 December 2026.

The campus features a playground circuit approved by the Discovery Vitality School Programme, which includes various stations for exercise sequences. Students also have access to a covered and heated swimming pool. The school environment is described as regularly maintained and upgraded to support the learning experience.

The school provides a variety of extra-mural activities, with at least one in-house activity offered daily as part of the school fees. Additional contracted activities include gymnastics, chess, and Little Kickers, while swimming is available year-round in a covered, heated pool for an extra fee. Furthermore, the school implements the Discovery Vitality School Sports Programme, which focuses on fundamental sports development and physical skills.
