The school offers an American college preparatory curriculum for preschool through secondary levels, utilizing a performance-based, mastery learning approach. It provides 18 onsite Advanced Placement (AP) courses, with online options available as needed. Almaty International School prepares students for university entrance in North America, Europe, Asia, and globally. The school offers four types of diplomas, including an Academic Diploma with Honors and an AP Capstone Diploma. Almaty International School accepts applications throughout the year, with admission based on space availability. The process includes submitting an application via OpenApply, providing academic records and passports, and completing a placement test and interview. Students aged 5 and older take the NWEA MAP assessment in reading, mathematics, and language usage, while those aged 8 and older also complete a written essay.

The school year typically begins in late August. The calendar includes various professional development days for staff, scheduled breaks, and assessment periods for standardized testing like the SAT and ACT. The campus occupies over seven hectares in the Kalkaman Micro-District and features multiple purpose-built facilities. These include a state-of-the-art library, three science laboratories, two computer laboratories, and portable laptop/iPad carts. Athletic and arts facilities include elementary and secondary gymnasiums, a soccer field with a track, two art rooms, and dedicated music rooms for choir and band.

The school offers a wide range of extracurricular activities, including athletics such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, swimming, cross country, badminton, track and field, and table tennis. Other clubs and activities include Model United Nations, Debate, Math Counts, National Honor Society, Student Council, Chess Club, Speech, Yearbook Club, and various fine arts opportunities like choir, drama, band, and orchestra. An optional athletic and activity period is available after school from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
