The school is guided by the motto 'semper ad meliora' (always towards better things) and is committed to the development of the whole person through academic, social, emotional, and spiritual growth. It utilizes the PERMA(H) research-based framework—encompassing Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, Accomplishment, and Positive Health—to foster a culture where wellbeing and learning are inextricably linked. The school offers a comprehensive curriculum from Prep to Year 12, including the Primary Years Program (PYP) in the Junior School. The Senior School curriculum covers Years 7–10 and Years 11–12, providing pathways for both the HSC and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. Academic programs are supported by a strong focus on STEM and technology, as well as learning enrichment and gifted education.

Ravenswood students achieve high academic results in both the HSC and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. The school’s focus on Positive Education and Visible Wellbeing is credited with helping students develop habits of mind such as optimism, resilience, grit, and compassion, which support their success both within and beyond the classroom.

The school employs a multi-faceted support system led by the Wellbeing Team, which includes Mentors, Year Coordinators, the Head of Senior School, and the Head of Positive Education. Additional support is provided by the School Chaplain, clinical psychologists, and a Learning Enrichment Team. The school also utilizes therapy dogs and provides specialized wellbeing interventions to support students' academic and personal growth.

Ravenswood is a non-selective school that accepts students of all talents, abilities, faiths, and cultures. The four-step enrolment process begins with an online application and a $400 application fee, followed by a provisional offer, a formal interview with a Deputy Principal or the Head of Enrolments, and a final confirmed offer requiring a $2,500 enrolment fee. International students must provide additional documentation, including proof of English competency via AEAS results and visa details.

The school operates on a four-term academic year. Terms typically commence in late January and conclude in early December, with breaks between terms and public holidays such as Australia Day, ANZAC Day, and the King’s Birthday observed. The academic year includes specific orientation sessions for new students, boarders, and those entering Kindergarten or Prep.

The campus features world-class facilities, including the Anne Johnstone Wellbeing and Sports Centre, a 25-metre heated indoor pool, and a Strength and Conditioning Centre. The Mabel Building houses a Learning Resources Centre, while the Ravenswood Residential College provides modern boarding accommodation with study hubs, collaborative spaces, and a dedicated wellbeing room. Outdoor areas include gardens, basketball hoops, and tennis tables to encourage social interaction and physical activity.

Students participate in a wide range of activities including performing and visual arts, speech and debating, and various sports clubs. The school also offers a cadet program, house spirit and leadership opportunities, and activities focused on global and social justice. Additionally, the Ravenswood Swimming Program and Club provides specialized training and facilities.
