The school is a German-Costa Rican encounter school that integrates the cultural values of both nations. Its educational approach emphasizes critical thinking, play-based learning in early years, and a commitment to forming valuable, rather than merely successful, individuals. The institution operates under the German cultural policy for schools abroad while adhering to Costa Rican educational requirements.

The academic offering spans from Kindergarten (ages 3-6) through primary and secondary education, culminating in the German Abitur and the Costa Rican national baccalaureate. The curriculum is supported by specialized instruction in sciences, informatics, and the arts, with a focus on multilingualism and intercultural competence. The PASO program serves as a specific bridge for students entering in 5th grade to acquire the necessary German language proficiency.

The school operates a Learning and Information Center (LIZ) for primary and secondary students, which provides access to literature in German, Spanish, and English, as well as digital resources and research assistance. Additionally, the school maintains a psychology department to support student well-being.

The school offers three admission pathways: entry at the preschool level, the PASO program (lateral entry in 5th grade for students from other schools), or regular entry for German-speaking students in other grades. The process involves an online application, submission of academic and medical records, and, for PASO candidates, participation in a 4th-grade German "Cursillo." Admitted families must sign an annual education contract and pay enrollment and entrance fees.

The school year typically runs from early February to early December. The calendar includes a mid-year break in July, an autumn break in October, and a holiday period for Easter, alongside various national holidays and designated parent consultation days.

The campus features modern technology, extensive green spaces, and professional-grade sports facilities, including a natural grass soccer field, a 300-meter tartan athletics track, a large gymnasium, and two swimming pools. Academic infrastructure includes specialized laboratories for physics, chemistry, biology, and primary science, as well as four computer labs and a mobile lab. The arts are supported by a dedicated pavilion with music rooms, an industrial arts workshop, and plastic arts studios, complemented by two auditoriums for performances and events.

The school provides a variety of clubs and afternoon activities, including a supervised care program known as Namibé. Students have access to sports teams, such as the "Delfines del Humboldt" swimming team, and musical groups like the children's orchestra. Facilities support over 15 sports disciplines and various artistic pursuits.
