Scotch College

Scotch College is a Uniting Church school that promotes progressive Christian values, including servant leadership, community service, and sustainable living. Its educational philosophy focuses on 'Knowing the Boy,' balancing intellectual, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs to foster character development and a lifelong love of learning. The school incorporates a 'Cognitive Curriculum' into all subjects to help students develop their own learning styles and perseverance.

The academic programme is delivered through three sub-schools: Junior School, Middle School, and Senior School. The curriculum includes a 'Cognitive Curriculum' taught across all year levels and a language programme offering French, Indonesian, and Spanish. Senior students have the option to pursue the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, and the school provides a comprehensive boarding programme starting from Year 7.

The College prepares students for life beyond school by fostering independence, critical thinking, and resilience. Students are encouraged to become collaborative workers, skilled researchers, and global communicators. The school maintains a strong community for life, supported by the Old Scotch Collegians alumni network.

The College employs a pastoral care framework known as 'Knowing the Boy,' which ensures students are supported by a network of staff including teachers, the on-site Chaplain, psychologists, year-level coordinators, and House Heads. Additionally, the school provides targeted, device-free tutoring programmes to support student learning.

Scotch College offers entry from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12, with major intake years at Pre-Primary, Year 4, and Year 7. Applications are submitted online, and the process includes a registration fee for local students, followed by a formal Letter of Offer and a confirmation fee for successful applicants. The College provides orientation opportunities for families the year prior to commencement to assist with the transition.

The school operates on a term-based system, with orientation events for new students typically held in the year prior to entry. Admissions and main reception are open Monday to Friday, 8am–4pm. Communication regarding Year 7 intake is sent each term in the year prior to entry, and onboarding communication is provided in August.

The 22-hectare campus in Swanbourne features world-class facilities, including expansive playing fields, a 50-metre pool, a state-of-the-art Boat Shed on Freshwater Bay, and a podcast studio. The College also operates 'Moray,' a 66-hectare outdoor education centre in Dwellingup, which includes a rock-climbing wall, ropes course, hiking trails, and kayaking facilities. The campus is highly accessible, located less than 100 metres from the Swanbourne train station.

The co-curricular programme includes over 100 enrichment activities, including music, performance, and sports. Students participate in more than 30 music ensembles, including a Pipe Band, and stage annual drama productions. The sports programme, part of the Public Schools Association (PSA), offers a wide range of summer and winter sports, including rowing, basketball, football, and hockey, with participation being compulsory for students from Years 3 to 12.
